Eugenie Bouchard causes a huge upset win over Veronika Kudermetova
Eugenie bouchard
It seems as if a long break from tennis is what Eugenie Bouchard needed to find her mojo back. After remaining winless on clay for nearly two years (her last win on clay was in 2018 in Gstaad), Bouchard broke the streak in fine fashion by defeating eighth seed Veronika Kudermetova 6-0, 6-3 in a Round of 32 match at the Prague Open.
Clinical Victory
Bouchard looked in great touch right from the beginning. She completed a ‘bagel’ in the first set and converted four break-points out of seven in total. The match completed in just over an hour. Now in Round of 16, she will face the winner of the match between Tamara Zidansek and Katerina Siniakova.
“It was a really difficult match as Veronika is a really good player. I am really happy to win this match. The match was tougher than the scoreline suggests. Looking forward to the next round and hoping to play it with the same intensity,” an ecstatic Eugene said after her win.
Bouchard’s patchy form to end?
A few years back, only Eugenie Bouchard was touted to be the next big thing in the WTA circuit. However, her form went haywire and now she finds herself languishing at 330th rank. The win in Prague was just her third win in the main draw in 2020. However, she beat her opponent who ranks 290 places above her. Will this win be a confidence booster for the Canadian and help her get back to winning ways? Only time will tell.
