The LIV Golf has once again come under the spotlight. On Friday, Spanish golfer Eugenio Chacarra sounded off on his former league after leaving them. The golfer dropped a bold claim saying that the league was all about money. His opinion has left the fans on social media divided.
Chacarra joined LIV Golf after leaving the Oklahama State University in his senior year. In May 2023, he called LIV Golf the best spot to go after college. Now the 24-year-old himself is looking for a new route.
At the time of his joining the league, the golfer was promised that the league would receive the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points and that he would be playing in the majors. LIV Golf though does not receive the rankings points which affects their world rankings which further affects their chances of qualifying for the major championships.
Speaking to X account Flushing It, the former Fireballs GC golfer did thank LIV Golf for everything that they did for him. However, he later expressed his desire to find a pathway to play on the PGA Tour.
He further added that he does not blame the 54-hole circuit and mentioned how they did not exist when he grew up. He would drop the name of Tiger Woods and claimed that he wants to win on the PGA Tour like Woods did back in the day.
24 year old, Eugenio Chacarra won on LIV in just his 5th start after turning pro. He’s also won on the International Series. But heading into 2025, he has a new goal, to achieve his life long dream of gaining a PGA Tour card:

Chacarra stunned the world when he won in just the sixth event of LIV Golf. At the LIV Golf Bangkok Invitational, he finished three strokes ahead of Patrick Reed and took home a $5,000,000 as the prize for finishing first.
In the 2024 season, Chacarra finished 39th in the season standings and had just one top-10 finish. He was tied for 10th at the LIV Golf Singapore event.
Social media reacts to Eugenio Chacarra’s claim on LIV Golf after exit
Since its establishment, LIV Golf has received huge criticism from golf fans. They have been accused of dividing the sport. Eugenio Chacarra’s claim of the PIF-funded tour only caring about money has sparked a debate on social media again.
While some fans once again attacked the 54-hole circuit on X, some defended it. Some took a swipe at Chacarra and his performances and raised questions regarding his previous decision to join the league on a big contract.
Check out some of the reactions from X regarding this below:
Good for Eugenio…I’m sure he’s not the only one that feels this way.

Good for him. He got out while the getting was good. 👍

Good luck to him. Sounds like he figured out the truth.

Aberg had 8 top tens, 3 runner ups, including the Masters, that's why he has the ranking he does. Chacarra had 1 T-10 in LIV. Even if LIV got equal OWGR points to the PGA Tour, he still wouldn't be close to Aberg's rank.

Eugenio did win early, but he hasn't even been close to a top 24 player on LIV. I get he has been dealing with injuries the last two season, sucks.

If he can dominate the Asian Tour, earn his way to DPWT & PGA Tour all power to him
LIV was always going to be a risk for him
It’s taken this long to realize LIV is a scam? Lmao

Sounds like a guy who couldn't make it on LIV and thinks the PGA Tour path is going to be easier pic.twitter.com/EHscDu9HWv

Then why did you join LIV bozo?
— frankiequigs.eth (@FrankieQuigs) January 11, 2025
Wow going to the meaningless league that was entirely centered around money was too money focused? Who could’ve thought!?

One has to perform. Bet he made good money though.

So what’s next for Chacarra? He could be subjected to a year-long suspension from the PGA Tour. He could play on the Asian Tour and the DP World Tour, but he might need some sponsor’s exemptions.
