Galatasaray edge Lazio 1-0 after the match seemed to end to end but without the final product. The match had no goal threat throughout and the only goal came in a very weird and comical manner as Strakosha fumbled the ball into his own net.
The first half was more of a pinball encounter where Galatasaray enjoyed ball possession more than Lazio but none of the sides could register a shot on target. Galatasaray had 7 shots and Lazio hit 4 shots, but closest to a goal was Olimpiu Morutan hit the woodwork. Galatasaray looked the livelier of the two sides in the first half.
The second half started with Lazio trying to penetrate the Galatasaray defense but they conceded one of the most comical goals ever as Strakosha failed to grab a high ball off a Lazzari clearance. Lazio improved a lot from the first half and ended the game on the front foot, but it was not enough as Galatasaray take all three points home.
Player Ratings:
Galatasaray
Fernando Muslera: 8/10
An impressive performance from the Uruguayan No.1 as Muslera made four diving saves to get his clean sheet.
DeAndre Yedlin: 6/10
An average performance from Yedlin as he looked good at times winning duels and recovering the ball, but also was dispossessed few times.
Marcao: 8/10
A very solid performance from the Galatasaray center back as he was one of the main characters in the show of dominating the Lazio attackers.
Viktor Nelsson: 7/10
A solid outing for the Danish defender as he alongside Marcao pocketed the Lazio attack for most part of the game.
Patrick Van-Aanholt: 6/10
Created real menace in the first half as he took three shots, and Van Aanholt also did well in tracking back for the defense.
Berkan Kutlu: 7/10
An impressive game playing as the sitter in the double pivot as Kutlu made four recoveries and one interception in the game.
Taylan Antalyali: 7/10
A good game in the midfield alongside Kutlu as Antalyali made five recoveries and won five duels till he came off.
Olimpiu Morutan: 7/10
Came closest to a goal compared to everyone in the game as his attempt in the first half came off the woodwork.
Alexandru Cicaldau: 6/10
A decent first half show from Cicaldau as he was the link between the midfield and the attack but could not do a lot.
Muhammed Arktukoglu: 6/10
A poor game in comparison to others as Arktukoglu could not dribble a lot, lost the ball few times and did not disturb the Lazio defense.
Halil Dervisoglu: 5/10
A very poor outing for the Galatasaray No.9 as he could hit only one shot, which was blocked, and made only 10 accurate passes.
Substitutes
Ryan Babel: NA
Emre Kalinic: NA
Sofiane Feghouli: NA
Mostafa Mohamed: NA
Christian Luyindama: NA
Lazio
Thomas Strakosha: 4/10
The villain of the day as Strakosha’s horror own goal cost Lazio the points and it would sting as there was no threat from Galatasaray in the goal.
Manuel Lazzari: 7/10
Lazzari has to be one of the best Lazio players on the pitch as he did not only defend well winning duels and making tackles, but he also contributed in the attack.
Luiz Felipe: 7/10
A good performance from Felipe although they did not get any points, but he was fundamental in keeping the Galatasaray attack silent.
Francesco Acerbi: 6/10
Acerbi looked decent throughout the game and did all he could alongside Marca in the second half.
Elseid Hysaj: 6/10
Hysaj could have definitely done better in the game but it was an average display against the opposition attack in the first half.
Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro: 6/10
A very silent game for Akpa-Akpro and he would also be disappointed not to hit any shot on target despite getting decent chances outside the box.
Lucas Leiva: 7/10
Lucas picked up from where he left off and was one of the best Lazio players on the pitch in a poor show as he was an engine for the team, winning possession and keeping the ball.
Luis Alberto: 5/10
Another poor show from Alberto as he did not only lose the ball with passes and got dispossessed a lot, but he also failed to win any duel.
Mattia Zaccagini: 6/10
Looked good at times but Zaccagini could not do a lot today considering that he was given the nod ahead of Pedro.
Ciro Immobile: 5/10
Another very frustrating evening for their main man as Immobile could not register a single shot on target, and was subbed ten minutes into the 2nd half.
Felipe Anderson: 6/10
A silent first game from Anderson where he could shoot the ball only once, which was very wide, and could not impact the game.
Substitutes
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic: 6/10
Along with Pedro, SMS looked like a good change as he started progressing the ball to the attack well and had the one of the best chances.
Vedat Muriqi: 5/10
Disappointing from Muriqi too as none of the Lazio strikers were up to the task in this game and had no threat.
Pedro: 7/10
Looked really like the positive change in the game as Pedro had the highest shots on target for Lazio despite coming on in the 2nd half.
Toma Basic: 6/10
Basic was subbed on in the hope of attacking football but he himself could not settle on early and had minimal influence in the game.
Danilo Cataldi: NA
