European Open: Rohan Bopanna’s title dream crashes, loses out doubles finals


Rohan Bopanna and Matwe Middelkoop lost in straight sets to the duo, John Peers and Michael Venus in the finals of the European Open. En route to the finals, Bopanna and Middelkoop won the semi-finals in a lengthy match against Joran Vliegen and Sander Gillé 4-6,6-3,10-8.
Bopanna will now team up with Frederik Nielsen, for the Astana Open (ATP 250 event).
Bopanna loses in straight sets
While the pair of Peers and Venus were seeded second, Bopanna and Middelkoop were unseeded. They defeated the home favourite Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in 76 minutes.
Bopanna began the year with a title at the Qatar Open. The Indian teamed up with Wesley Koolhof to seal the win. Reaching the second finals of 2020 with partner Matwé Middelkoop, the duo suffered a loss against John Peers and Michael Venus.
