Eva Lys has revealed a disgusting message she received from a fan after losing her quarter-finals match against Coco Gauff at the China Open. This week was meant to be a celebration for the German star as she reached the last eight of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career on tour.
The 23-year-old had an impressive run at the China Open. She defeated Zhang Ruien, then beat Iva Jovic, before getting her first top 10 win of her career against Elena Rybakina in the third round. She earned her place in the quarter-finals after overcoming American star McCartney Kessler 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
She then faced defending champion Gauff, who was seeking her second title of the season at the tournament. Despite giving her best on the court, it was not enough as Gauff played an almost flawless game, beating the German star 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and twenty-eight minutes. Gauff advanced to her fourth semi-final of the season and first since winning Roland Garros.
But Lys looked happy after her post-match handshake with Gauff as she wished the American star well. But a day later, she took to social media, posting a comment from a fan, who had insulted her for losing against Gauff. The statement showed the level of hate messages tennis players get from some fans:
I wish this…and her bigger…mother die the death of swines… match seller, you should burn in hell. (Expletive) player. Your pathetic mother a… who had given birth to a… like you. I wish she dies in your arms really soon.
Lys then reacted to the message, revealing that hate messages are the reality tennis players receive after losing a match on tour:
And let’s not forget the reality whenever we lose a match.

Women players have often revealed how many hate messages they receive from fans after a loss. Recently, Jessica Pegula reacted strongly to the hate messages she received after losing to Lois Boisson in the fourth round of the French Open. She revealed that the tournament organizers must do something about it.
Coco Gauff falls to Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing
Coco Gauff became the first player to make three consecutive China Open semi-finals since Jelena Jankovic from 2006 to 2008. But she failed to get beyond the semi-finals of the tournament as she fell to Amanda Anisimova. The all-American clash just lasted for 58 minutes as Anisimova crushed Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in Beijing.

Gauff failed to produce the level of improved consistent performance that she has shown at the China Open. The former World No.2 let Anisimova control the game, forcing Gauff to make uncharacteristic errors. Anisimova revealed after the match that she was happy with her dominant display and excited to reach the final:
I was just excited to play here in my first semifinal. I was able to put on a really good performance, and I knew I was going to have to play very well against Coco if I wanted to get the win, and yeah, I’m really excited to be in the final. I love playing here. The crowd support has been so amazing since the first day that I got here, and I really think that’s carried me through this entire tournament.
Anisimova is seeking her second title of the season and second WTA 1000 crown in her career. She will face Linda Noskova in the final after the Czech Republic star stunned Jessica Pegula in the semi-final. Anisimova is the favorite to win the title as she looks to redeem herself after losing the US Open title to World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.
