The 2024 Copa America is already underway and last Friday, Argentina was locked in a fierce battle with Canada. However, one particular figure who piqued the interest of the fans and the experts alike was that of a woman who was with the referees. Usually, one wouldn’t expect this scene but as fans would have it, the lady was no intruder and appeared in the hallowed frame only through invitation.
The lady’s name is Morena Beltran who is an Argentine journalist plying her trade for ESPN. Beltran was invited by Coca-Cola who happen to be the official sponsor of the fray and she was called in as an ambassador for the Copa America.
She has a massive fan following on X with more than 500k followers while her Instagram shares a similarly sizeable fanbase with 2.1 million followers. She is well-known in the Argentine footballing circuit and is said to have brilliant relations with the Argentina players. In fact, she was also a part of Sergio Aguero‘s team in the Queen’s League.
Her sudden appearance sparked a palpable askance amongst the fans as the frame is strictly for the referees. However, later in a post on Instagram she explained the entire scenario and also the reason of her presence in one of the most talked about frames.
How did Argentina start their campaign in Copa America 2024?
This was Argentina’s opening game in the tournament and the defending champions of the Copa America outplayed their technically undercooked counterparts by putting a brace beyond them. The proceedings picked up pace in the second half after a cagey approach to the opening 45 minutes.
Julian Alvarez scored the opener in the 49th minute and after a considerable exchange of haymakers, it was Lautaro Martinez who fired home the winner in the 88th minute. Argentina will be playing Chile next on Thursday. At the moment, they are the group toppers in Group A, courtesy of the fine win and a draw between Chile and Peru.
