Fresh social media evidence shows that Juju Smith-Schuster perhaps knew he was going to be a Kansas City Chiefs player even when he was still showing up for Patriots training.

Juju Smith-Schuster struggled at the New England Patriots because of recurring injury troubles resulting in a lack of game time. Following the change of the head coach in the offseason, many believed he may find even less time on the field. So, the best course of action for him was to leave even though he signed a three-year extension last year.

On Sunday, news broke that Smith was heading back to his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, signing a one-year deal with details to be announced at a later date. However, a recent social media post shortly after the announcement created a buzz all over the internet.

It was a screengrab of Juju Smith-Schuster talking to the press after a Patriots workout in early August. He was wearing full Patriots gear, from head cover to pads, under his practice jersey. There was nothing out of the ordinary until an eagle-eyed fan noticed an anomaly.

They spotted a faint outline of the Kansas City Chiefs logo on the left side of Smith’s pads visible underneath the jersey.

Juju Smith-Schuster will add some much-required experience in the Chiefs receiver room

The Chiefs need all the help they can get despite the presence of the best quarterback in the league, Patrick Mahomes. Last season, the Chiefs receivers dropped the most passes (42) resulting in several missed scoring opportunities.

They had depth in the receiver room, but most of them are first- and second-years like Justyn Ross, Xavier Worthy, Skyy Moore, and Cornell Powell, who are still learning the playbook. Besides them, the Chief also has veterans Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman Jr.

Additionally, general manager Brett Veach brought in Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown as another veteran, but he will be out for the first few weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury. Smith-Schuster is most likely the replacement for Brown, which means Ross, Moore, Toney, and Powell are on borrowed time before the locked 53-man roster.

The Chiefs signed Smith-Schuster as the replacement for Tyreek Hill in 2022. He caught 78 passes for 933 yards and 3 touchdowns, winning the Super Bowl before being shipped to the Patriots. He played one season with the 7x Champs, recording just 29 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games.

The 27-year-old entered the NFL as the Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick in 2017 and played there for five seasons. 2018 was his best year when he caught 111 passes for 1,426 yards and 7 touchdowns.
