Ex-Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly accepted the USMNT head coach position, after recent EPL exit. The 52-year-old manager had been previously rumored to be in line for the England national team head coach role.
Mauricio Pochettino is set to be named as the next manager of the US men’s national team, a massive upgrade over past managers. He will replace Gregg Berhalter, who was dismissed after a disappointing Copa America 2024 display, where the team was eliminated in the group stage. Pochettino will guide the team through to the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which will be hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
The 52-year-old manager brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously guided teams to a Champions League final and multiple domestic titles. The Argentine is considered an ideal fit for the role, as the Americans aim to avoid another disappointing outcome in 2026. Additionally, Pochettino also holds a connection with current US Soccer technical director Matt Crocker, having worked alongside him at Southampton.

Furthermore, Pochettino’s appointment dismisses rumors connecting him to the England national team. Besides the ex-PSG manager, the USMNT was also linked to veteran managers such as Jurgen Klopp, Thierry Henry, and Patrick Vieira.
Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson frustrated by managerial change after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure
Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson is reportedly infuriated with the club, over the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new manager following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure. Apart from him, a number of other players are considering their future under the new manager.

The 23-year-old Senegalese forward, who was brought in from Villarreal for £32 million, finished the last season with 17 goals in 44 appearances. Jackson had a strong relationship with Pochettino, and his exit has left the young forward frustrated. With the club actively seeking new strikers, Jackson’s future at Chelsea is uncertain as he faces possible competition for his position.
Moreover, the arrival of young forwards Marc Guiu and Pedro Neto could lead Maresca to relegate Jackson to the bench, potentially costing him his starting spot.
