Dallas Mavericks sent shockwaves through the sports world by trading star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers during his prime. And given the current struggles of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL, former legend Dez Bryant couldn’t help but voice his profound disappointment with the Dallas-based teams.
Despite leading the Mavs to the NBA Finals last year and ending more than a decade-long drought, the franchise traded the superstar to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie along with a 2029 first-round pick. Since the utterly shocking trade deal went public, several notable sports personalities have expressed their shock over it.
Former Cowboys star, Bryant is also among those who never saw such a shocking trade deal coming, especially amid the speculations of Doncic landing a blockbuster multi-year extension from the Mavs. To voice his sheer disappointment, Bryant posted a tweet, expressing his desire to leave Dallas.
Idk what to say about Dallas… I’m getting ready to move.. WTF

The former NFL All-Pro receiver’s frustration could possibly be related to team management of the Cowboys, which is receiving criticism from fans and analysts alike. Besides Bryant, former footballer-turned-analyst Robert Griffin III is also among those to publicly express their dissatisfaction and shock by the Mavs’ sudden trade move.

This move by the Mavs is being heavily criticized in the world of sports. ESPN’s Adam Schefter even drew a striking comparison to illustrate the appalling NBA trade, suggesting that it would be akin to the Baltimore Ravens trading Lamar Jackson to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for Joe Burrow in the middle of the season.
Jerry Jones jokes abound after Luka Doncic departs from Dallas Mavericks
Surprisingly, another General Manager of a Dallas-based team, Jerry Jones is humorously being blamed for this shocking trade deal. Given, that the Mavs were previously reported to be working on a record-breaking five-year contract as a reward for the extraordinary season he had.
However, out of nowhere, Mavs’ General Manager Nico Harrison hindered and went ahead with trading Doncic to the Lakers. Although the NBA fans don’t exactly get the humor behind blaming Jones, the NFL fans are having a good laugh, calling it a “gallows humor.”
The Jerry jokes mainly arise from the fact that the Mavs did not actively seek to trade Doncic around the league; rather, they specifically aimed to exchange him for Davis. Many believe the Mavs lost the trade or went in cheap.
