Ex-GM of $9 billion NBA franchise pities Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka’s troubles with Lakers trades
Warriors former general manager Bob Myers defended the Lakers' front office for struggling to find a center for the roster.
Bob Myers defended Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss
The Los Angeles Lakers’ lack of a center has been a hot topic in the NBA. The topic has become an ongoing joke, with fans making fun of front-office capabilities. But the situation became serious when the team’s star Anthony Davis publicly spoke about the roster’s deficiency. This started a saga against General Manager Rob Pelinka and President Jeanie Buss. However, former GM Bob Myers has chosen a contradictory side.
The former Warriors GM seems to sympathize with the Lakers front office. Bob Myers who has had a lot of experience in the NBA, dissuades against criticism of the Lakers. Myers believes that Rob Pelinka is working towards signing a player but that is the smallest part of making a deal. The ex-GM tried to defend a fellow manager while he was speaking during ESPN’s NBA countdown.
Myers’ statement turned heads even on the panel. Stephen A. Smith and Kendrick Perkins immediately disagreed with Myers. Despite Myers’ tenure, the executive’s perspective was questioned as the Lakers’ main man LeBron James, and HC JJ Redick have agreed with Davis. AD clarified that adding a center would make the team’s job easier with him being the power forward. But Myers seems to have kept that aside.

Along with multiple insiders, James and AD were reportedly concerned about their front office. The team is currently in a decent state but the roster is not enough to fight for a title. During their 2020 championship, besides Davis and James, Dwight Howard filled the paint. Hence, to make a run again the front office is in desperate need of making a deal before the trade deadline on February 6th.
Adding a center is ‘at the top of the list’ for the Lakers and Rob Pelinka
When JJ Redick first joined the Lakers, the HC immediately spoke about the team needing a center. Hence, the problem has been in front of the team for a long period. Pelinka and Buss have been working towards it for months, but the pressure is increasing considering the trade deadline.
Despite their already ongoing efforts, the front office was not bothered by AD’s public statement. Clutch Points Anthony Irwin reported that the team has heard Davis ‘Loud and clear’. The reporter made a list of potential pieces for the Lakers roster along with disclosing the team’s actions about Davis’ pleas.
Myers’ perspective might be valid, but the trade deadline is the issue in the situation. As the front office party is aware of that, the team has not taken offense to Davis’ statement. The team is showing major interest in the Bulls’ Nikola Vucevic, but they have to reach a conclusion in two weeks.
