Iga Swiatek, who made an earnest request to the organizers to make some changes in the WTA schedule, was slammed by Russia’s Yevgeny Kafelnikov on X. When his compatriot Daria Kasatkina noticed the tweet, she took a brutal dig at him.

Swiatek, after her quarterfinal win over Mirra Andreeva at the Cincinnati Open, talked about how exhausting tennis has become because of important tournaments one after the other. The Pole, like many top-ranked players, has been playing continuously without much rest, and feels asking for ‘rest’ will make the tennis fraternity ‘hate’ her. It seems she guessed it right as Kafelnikov criticized her by asking her to play fewer tournaments and earn less money.

Kasatkina, while replying to the tweet, compared the prize money of Swiatek and Kafelnikov to criticize him for his remarks. Kafelnikov, who is a two-time Grand Slam champion, has earned a total of $23,883,797 in prize money, while Swiatek has collected $31,419,512.

Iga Swiatek lost to Aryna Sabalenka in Cincinnati Open semifinals

After getting past Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals, Iga Swiatek clashed with Aryna Sabalenka for the third time this year. It was their first meeting on the hard court this season and Sabalenka, who was defeated twice by Swiatek in the final at the Madrid Open and Rome Open, came out on top in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 48 minutes.

During the match, Swiatek saved 10 match points but it was too late for her to snatch the victory. Sabalenka will now play her first final since the Rome Open and will meet Jessica Pegula, who knocked out Paula Badosa to set up the clash with the Belarusian.

It was Swiatek’s first tournament on the North American hard court swing as she decided to skip the Canadian Open to get some much-needed rest following the Paris Olympics where she clinched the bronze medal. Her next target is the US Open, where she will be chasing her sixth Major. She has already won the title at the Flushing Meadows in 2022.

The 23-year-old has won five titles plus the Olympic bronze this year. She lifted the trophies at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Madrid Open, Rome Open, and the French Open.
