Days after Jaylen Brown was not chosen to replace Kawhi Leonard, there is still debate surrounding him and Team USA. Some have speculated that Brown’s public remarks criticizing Nike may have played a role in his rejection from the roster. Notably, ex-NFL star Keyshawn Johnson publicly admitted on the Undisputed Show that Nike had a role to play in Brown’s exclusion from Team USA.
The NFL legend used the sequence of the conflict between Brown and Nike in the most recent Undisputed episode to support his position. Then, he highlighted how Nike and Brown’s current relationship was the main cause of the Celtics star’s banishment. In addition, Johnson does have a point as Brown was the best player in the NBA this past 2023-24 season.
When you think about what he said about the ethics of Nike and how they treated the Kyrie [Irving] situation… Jaylen said, ‘I’m not afraid of y’all’. Now he came back here on July 11th and said the same thing…I said from Day 1 this was about Nike. I'm with Jaylen Brown 100%.On the Undisputed Show, Keyshawn Johnson said
On the contrary, Brown went all out in a war of words with Nike on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which mostly angered the top executives. Also, it’s interesting to note that Nike has been hugely involved with Team USA over the years and could also have a say in team selection. It remains to be seen if there are any further developments on the Brown X Nike story in the coming weeks.
