Ex-NFL star Vincent Jackson died of “Chronic alcohol use”

The autopsy conducted by The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Ex-NFL WR Vincent Jackson died of “chronic alcohol use”. Jackson was found dead earlier this year at Homewood Suites on the outskirts of Tampa, Florida. According to the toxicology report, Jackson had a blood-alcohol content of 0.28% when he was found dead, at the age of 38. His family informed authorities that they believed he suffered from alcoholism.
The autopsy report also mentioned Jackson suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE. The former WR was suffering from stage 2 CTE at the time of his death caused by the repeated blows he received during his career.

Reportedly, Jackson used alcohol to dull the pain that was caused due to CTE. Jackson’s widow, Lindsey in an interview with The New York Times said, “Jackson indicated that his brain sometimes ‘felt fuzzy’ and alcohol helped.”

Jackson had a 12-year long NFL career. He played with the then-San Diego Chargers (2005-11) and Tampa Buccaneers (2012-16). He ended his career in 2018 with 540 pass receptions for 9,080 yards and 57 touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro-Bowl three times in his career.
Jackson dealt with depression, progressive memory loss, mood swings, paranoia, and extreme social isolation – all considered symptoms of CTE in the months leading to his untimely death.
The entire NFL community was shocked after hearing the news of his death in February. The medical examiner categorized the manner of death as “natural.”
