It’s often said that taking a step back is sometimes necessary to make real progress. As much as a plant needs soil and water, it doesn’t need the kind of shade that limits its growth. Pittsburgh Steelers offer Russell Wilson the soil and the water, however, the way Justin Fields has prospered and played will be a shade.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have bounced back from a two-game losing streak against the Las Vegas Raiders, last week. Justin Fields completed 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards, without throwing for a touchdown or an interception, though he did take three sacks. However, he made up for it on the ground, rushing 11 times for 59 yards and two scores.

Entering the Week 7 with a 4-2, The Steelers have found their better option in Justin Fields. There exists a hard route for Wilson to gain his way back into the starters list. FOX NFL analyst and color commentator Mark Schlereth shared a similar view during Monday’s taping of FS1’s Breakfast Ball. He suggested that Wilson should consider seeking a trade, a suggestion also put up by Cam Newton.

I think Russell Wilson should shop himself for a trade, think this is Justin Fields’ job. I think he’s one of those guys, and you know it from Chicago. The guys love playing with him. And he’s not making mistakes. He’s running the football. Yeah, the passing game’s got to develop. But I think this is his job.

Mark Schlereth said

Wilson was supposed to be the Steelers starting quarterback before an aggravated calf injury took him out of the field for the first six games. He signed a year deal with the Steelers after being released from the Denver Broncos in the offseason. In Week 6, Wilson practiced fully after being announced active for the first time since the regular season began. He’ll serve as the backup to Fields, supporting from the sideline as the No. 2 quarterback.

Ben Roethlisberger feels Justin Fields should start for Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger, ex-Pittsburgh Steelers legend reverberated his previous thoughts as the Steelers face New York Jets next week. He admitted that Fields is the right option for the team at the moment and they should continue with him for the time being.

Fields had some tiresome days with performances like the one against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5. Football is a very unpredictable sport and brutal hits could change the timeline of how the game and well, the season goes. Roethlisberger expressed his concern about poor performances, however, mentioned that Fields has been doing enough for the time being.

I thought Justin [Fields] played a good game, he went on some spurts where he had a couple of bad throws in a row. But all in all I wouldn’t absolutely not even think of taking him out of the game right now. I think he’s doing enough. You saw with his legs especially, making things happen.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing the New York Jets in the upcoming week. The Green and White are currently on a losing record and will be aiming to get back their groove. If Pittsburgh HC Mike Tomlin decides to bench Fields, Wilson will have to ensure the win to solidify his stance.
