By the end of this week, either Drake Maye or Sam Darnold will be crowned first-time Super Bowl champions, something Tom Brady experienced at the turn of the century. Now a regular contributor on FOX Sports and a stakeholder in the Raiders, Brady is free from the grind of countless hours of practice to chase a championship ring.
In other words, he’s free to pick his favorite to win Super Bowl LX between the Patriots and the Seahawks. And what did the 48-year-old do? He gave a diplomatic answer, not foreseeing the storm it would spark later. That’s precisely what happened.
His choice ticked off several of his former teammates at the Patriots. Asante Samuel, in particular, fired off tweet after tweet, demanding an explanation from Brady for not choosing the Patriots, even though he’s no longer connected to the Boston team.
Samuel, a retired DB, slapped a question mark on Brady’s loyalty to the team where he won six of his seven rings.
Tom Brady, I am highly, I mean highly, disappointed in you not rooting for your ex-teammate, Mike Vrabe,l who is about to do something special. I’m going to fye (fry?) you up one of these mornings. Tag Brady let him know I’m on him,

Needless to say, he didn’t hear back from Brady. It angered him even more.
Brady, you can’t be the only one winning Super Bowls. Let me find out you hating on Drake Maye and Vrabel. “I don’t have a dog in this fight.” Not what I wanted to hear. Brady knows how I get down. This ain’t nothing new to him.

Tom Brady receives an ultimatum from Asante Samuel for refraining from supporting Drake Maye and the Patriots to win the Super Bowl
The drama kicked off after Brady made a statement on the Let’s Go! podcast. Instead of revealing his favorites to win Super Bowl LX, Brady declared that he wants to see the best team win.

I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one. May the best team win.
Brady said
He briefly compared his Patriots to the current iteration, curated by his former teammate Mike Vrabel.
In terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime… We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back, and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England.
If Brady had no prior connection to the Patriots, then this harmless statement wouldn’t have generated so much tension. However, being a face of the franchise for twenty years does warrant a little loyalty in return. To Samuel, it felt like Brady had betrayed him or broken the bro code by not choosing the Patriots. In his last tweet of the day, he gave Brady an ultimatum to either explain himself or brace for an exposé.
Tom Brady, you have 23 hrs to respond, or it’s up.
Samuel tweeted

It’s in Brady’s best interests to avoid a confrontation with Samuel right before the Super Bowl. Samuel has a history of going after players who cross him. Last month, he called out Cam Newton for disrespecting Drake Maye’s quarterbacking prowess.
