The 23XI Racing-Front Row Motorsports alliance changed NASCAR as a whole when they sued the sanctioning body alleging monopoly. Their move came after, both sides refused to sign the charter agreement for the 2025-2031 season. This saga has spilt the stock car racing community with everyone taking sides in the legal drama.
Recently ex-NASCAR driver Rick Mast, who raced when the sports as at its peak talked about the lawsuit via Kenny Wallace’s YouTube channel. He explained why most of the old school racers are siding with NASCAR in the debate. Mast also explained why the teams are overlooking losses to race in the sport.
Further talking about the point, he warned 23XI-FRM that though their reason for the lawsuit seems fair, there is limited chance of them getting bets result out of it. He believes that teams will not have any more power or control over the sport, than what they have at the moment.
Rick Mast explains how different the situation was for NASCAR teams in the past
While talking about how the things played out in his time in racing, with no charters, Mast pointed out that the teams didn’t have no net saving them from downfall if they fail to make races. The charter system has given the teams a side benefit and some blue-sky value, something the old teams never got to enjoy.
The comment from Mast explains why the old school racers are hesitant to support the teams in the legal battle as they know well about how the sport worked without it. But there are in the wrong as well, considering nor the teams or driver enjoys the same fortune the old racers once enjoyed when the sport was at its peak. The time has changed, and the sports needs to change to thrive.
