After C.J. Stroud’s brilliance in his rookie year, another name that surprised many in the industry was Brock Purdy. The Mr. Irrelevant of the 2022 draft class led the San Francisco 49ers straight to the Super Bowl in his second year as starting QB.

The young quarterback not only dominated the entire NFC but also was finished amongst the NFL MVP finalists. Posting 4,280 yards, with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, Purdy really came through.

But this wasn’t just about one season as when Purdy took over as the starting QB in his rookie year, he led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game, where they, unfortunately, couldn’t succeed and were outperformed by the Philadelphia Eagles. Even after the Super Bowl LVIII loss, Purdy as the true leader took over the entire blame

With such potential, the Niners are expecting the 24-year-old to ask for a lucrative deal which they, of course, are ready to offer. Given, he will be eligible for an extension following the 2024 season. However, not everyone agrees that the second-year quarterback deserves such a huge deal. During a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game, former Super Bowl champion Jermaine Wiggins gave a blunt reaction to Purdy’s potential lucrative extension that the 49ers are likely to offer.

I don't think he [Brock Purdy] is, but that's the going rate. If I'm a San Francisco fan, I'm calling every day and I'm gonna be like [Kyle] Shanahan, let's pick up the phone call [Tom] Brady!'

Wiggins is among those critics of the young quarterback, who believes the only reason Purdy succeeded was because of the star-studded offensive weapons gathered by head coach Kyle Shanahan

Even though the Niners couldn’t score a triumph in the Super Bowl LVIII, their efforts weren’t negligible. Being the first team to qualify for the playoffs, the Niners had total dominance in the NFC with a 12-5 season record.

That’s why, the 49ers CEO Jed York is ready to offer to pay Purdy what he truly deserves.

It's a good problem when your quarterback is one of the highest-paid guys on your team and in the league.

Purdy is currently in a four-year rookie deal worth $3.7 million, which he signed after being drafted in the last round of the 2022 NFL draft. His base salary as per this contract is $934,252– ranked 54th among the NFL quarterbacks.
