After posting a career-high touchdown count and leading the Texas Longhorns into the College Football Playoffs, star quarterback Quinn Ewers is being pursued by an unnamed school with a compelling offer. However, a former wide receiver doesn’t seem too happy about it.

On3 reported on Tuesday that the young quarterback has caught attention in college football to such an extent that an unnamed school is willing to make him one of the highest quarterbacks in college football history if he agrees to enter the Transfer Portal and join them. By doing so, he will have to rescind his entry into the 2025 NFL draft and rejoin the ranks of college football.

Upon hearing the popular news, the former Texas wide receiver, Johntay Cook– who played with Ewers for two seasons, reacted swiftly and candidly, stating that whichever school has made such an offer would soon regret their decision as it’s a waste of money.

Wasting yall money fr,” wrote Cook before making his X account private.

Cook had played the last two seasons with Ewers before leaving Texas in November 2024. The five-star talent transferred to Washington through a mutual decision with Texas to part ways. As for Ewers, he hasn’t spoken on the subject despite the buzz around the news. He is currently preparing for Peach Bowl against the Arizona Cardinals after the Longhorns qualified for the College Football Playoffs quarterfinals.

College football insider weighs in on Quinn Ewers’ lucrative transfer offer

The lucrative offer made to Ewers has made quite a noise in college football, especially since he is projected not to be picked in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. College Football Insider Bruce Feldman also acknowledged the headlines of lately surrounding Ewers and gave his perspective on the whole thing.

My guess is he (Ewers) will be in the (transfer) portal,” said Feldman on The Rich Eisen Show.

I guess the NFL doesn’t look at him as a top 50 pick. They look at him as probably a second or third or fourth-round quarterback.

Bruce Feldman added

There’s a good possibility that the young signal-caller may actually consider the offer especially since he already has one year of college eligibility left and by doing so, he may improve his draft projection for the 2026 NFL Draft. Besides, he has another reason to consider the lucrative offer as Texas is likely to make Arch Manning the starting next year.
