As the New York Yankees face off against the Minnesota Twins, a former Twins star dropped a bold take regarding Giancarlo Stanton. He believes the Yankees slugger will not make it to the MLB Hall of Fame despite having more than 400 home runs.

Stanton, 35, has been one of the top power hitters in MLB in the past decade. The former Miami Marlins star has the most home runs among active players at (441) and needs 59 more to enter the 500-home run club.

Apart from this impressive number, Stanton has racked up 5 All-Star selections, won the National League MVP award in 2017, and has won 2 Silver Slugger and 2 Hank Aaron Awards. Despite these achievements, former Twins star Trevor Plouffe does not think that the Yankees’ star will make it to Cooperstown once his career is done.

While speaking alongside Chris Rose at the Baseball Today podcast, Plouffe pointed out his other numbers. He brought up the .912 OPS (On-base percentage Plus Slugging) and 4.7 average WAR (Wins Above Replacement) and claimed that those were not exactly HOF numbers.

If you go over the numbers, it seems like he might be on the outside looking in. A .912 OPS, 4.7 WAR per season, those aren’t Hall of Fame type numbers. I want him in the Hall of Fame, (but) I don’t think he gets voted in.

Trevor Plouffe said on Baseball Today podcast

Plouffe later mentioned that he does think Stanton would reach the 500 home run club. However, as per him, his numbers might not get him the desired amount of votes to enter the Hall of Fame.

I think yes, 500 homers automatically puts you in there (Hall of Fame), especially if you’re not suspected of PEDs. But, I know that’s kind of not how it works, and I don’t think he’s going to get voted in.

Trevor Plouffe added

A player gets 10 chances to get into the Hall of Fame through the votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). Players are required to get 75 percent of votes while they are on the ballot to reach Cooperstown.

This year, three players in Ichiro Suzuki, C.C. Sabathia, and Billy Wagner reached the Hall of Fame through the BBWAA ballot. For Stanton, there is still a long road to go before finding his name on the ballot.

Just when Trevor Plouffe and Chris Rose discussed Giancarlo Stanton’s potential chances of making it into the MLB Hall of Fame, the New York Yankees star reminded them about his hitting prowess. He slammed his 441st career home run and shone brightly in a 9-1 win over the Minnesota Twins.

The Yankees have suffered another midseason slump and have fallen from the top of the American League East standings. Before this series against the Twins, they lost 3 series in a row against the Houston Astros, the Texas Rangers, and the Miami Marlins.

Following a 5-2 win on Monday night, the Yankees started strong on Tuesday. After a double in the first inning, he smashed a towering home run in the 5th inning to extend his side’s lead to 5-1. His 447 ft home run was the 12th blast of this season.

A single in the 6th inning left him a triple shy of the cycle. In the 8th inning, he drove in two more runs through a bases-loaded single to make it an 8-1 game. He eventually finished the game going 4-for-5 and raised his season batting average to .300.

This performance from him came on a night when he was playing in the right field for a 2nd straight game. With Aaron Judge still not ready to play in the outfield again, Stanton was given the role of playing as the right fielder instead of his regular Designated Hitter (DH) role.

The Yankees have now won 2 successive games and snapped their 3 series losing streak. They will enter the game on Wednesday, hoping to complete a 3-game series sweep of the AL Central team.
