Everyone in the MMA community knows that Daniel Cormier will go out of his way to defend Khabib Nurmagomedov and the Dagestani fighters. Cormier recently defended the Nurmagomedov family after the main event of UFC Shanghai ended in Umar Nurmagomedov’s defeat.

Not only that, ‘DC’ also defended the actions of Usman Nurmagomedov after he rushed the cage and clashed with Song Yadong while the Chinese star was celebrating. This time, the reaction has been mixed. Only fighters are supporting Usman, and majority of the fans lambasted his behavior.

Some hours after the UFC Shanghai main event concluded, DC uploaded a YouTube video defending Umar and Usman. Majority of the fans criticized Cormier for constantly coming up with excuses for the Dagestani team, and ex-UFC star Darren Till joined in.

Why is DC always on the defensive of the Nurmagemadovs? Baffles me? You as a company man should he shouldn’t have stormed the octagon like that. The guy is celebrating his big knockout against a huge name. But somehow you have found a way to defend him you little potato head. Why why why?

Till kept his criticism around what Cormier said and asked the former UFC champion to become an ambassador for Team Khabib. Even in his insults, Till admitted that DC was among the best UFC fighters of all time.

Darren Till is not someone who minces words. He will say exactly what he feels without thinking about who will get offended. The ex-UFC star joining fans to criticize Cormier shows how much the incident at UFC Shanghai rubbed people the wrong way.

Usman Nurmagomedov has come out and denied that he had any intention of attacking Song Yadong. However, video footage showed that even Khabib tried to stop Usman from entering the cage immediately after the knockout.

Usman’s action shows how much love he has for his brother. However, there are protocols in place and every corner team is expected to follow them.

Usman breaking the protocols to enter the octagon and clash with Song is one thing. However, Cormier and other fighters constantly trying to downplay the rule breaking is what Till is pointing out in his tweet. It remains to be seen if DC reacts to the British fighter anytime soon.

Fighters are having a mixed opinion regarding how Usman Nurmagomedov acted inside the octagon at UFC Shanghai. Retired fighters like Daniel Cormier and Matt Brown cite the humanistic aspect of being worried about a loved one.

Meanwhile, others like Sean O’Malley and Darren Till point out how Song Yadong’s winning moment was almost ruined by how Usman acted.

UFC Hall of Famer, Chael Sonnen, recently came out in support of the undefeated Dagestani star. Sonnen also brought up the humane aspects while admitting protocols were broken at UFC Shanghai.

Set the rules aside. If I’m Umar and I go down, I want someone in my corner who cares enough to get to me. Nothing—not the rules, not even Khabib—would stop him from checking on his brother. He’s not a doctor and he doesn’t know CPR. It doesn’t matter. His presence meant something. You can follow the rules and still recognize that, on a human level, what Usman did was awesome.

From all the instances of fighters defending Usman Nurmagomedov, the common point is the praise for brotherly concern. However, they are not addressing the potential escalation if Yadong reacted in retaliation.

This is where the divide occurs in the MMA community. The incident didn’t escalate because Yadong kept his composure. As such, majority of the fans feel that Yadong deserves more praise for not lashing out in that incident when Usman interrupted his victory celebrations to care for his brother.
