Drake Maye is a strong contender to become the 2025 NFL MVP. Maye boasts the best pass completion with 70.9 and ranks fifth with 3567 passing yards in 14 games.

Last year’s winner, Josh Allen, is marginally behind Maye—70% pass completion and 3276 yards. Maye lost to Allen and the Bills in a disappointing fashion. The Bills won after trailing by seventeen points at halftime.

Despite the defeat, Maye remains ahead of Allen in the MVP race. Continuity is key. Maye needs to consistently put on world-class performances week after week to become the top player in football.

However, the 23-year-old prefers to look at the bigger picture. His goal is to hold the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season.

The [NFL] MVP is obviously one of the big accolades for this league… It’s an honor as a player to earn the award, and I respect all the past MVPs, but I think at the end of the day, winning a Super Bowl is the biggest thing.

Drake Maye told the media on Wednesday

The Patriots could go on to win the Super Bowl in San Francisco in February, and Maye can also realistically become the MVP. Voters select the best players based on their regular-season performance. Allen and Lamar Jackson won even though neither of them played in the Super Bowl.

Maye stands a solid chance of breaking that cycle. As per Eric Williams of FOX Sports, Drake Maye boasts the fourth-best odds behind the Los Angeles Rams 37-year-old quarterback Matthew Stafford, the Bills Josh Allen, and the Cleveland Browns’ All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett.

The Patriots won the Week 5 fixture against the Bills and aimed for a first double against their division rivals after a long while. Allen foiled the Patriots’ plans with a 3-touchdown performance. He finished with 67% pass completion for 193 yards, along with 11 carries for 48 yards.

Maye capped off a rare bad passing game with just 14 completions for 155 yards and 1 interception. He made amends on the ground with two scores on four carries. The Patriots missed the chance of going level with the Denver Broncos at the top of the AFC.

In week 16, the Patriots face off against the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. Currently, Vegas views the Patriots as the underdogs even though the Ravens are 7-7. The Ravens will prove a tricky opponent with Lamar Jackson calling signals from under center.

Maye isn’t bothered by the narrative. His sole focus is securing the Patriots’ twelfth win of the year.

Don’t let it beat you twice. Move on to the next week, learn from it, and take what we can. And know that we’ve got some football ahead of us that’s important, still very important. And don’t just hang our hat and keep your head up and know that we had a chance and we’re there, just they made more plays and credit to them.

With Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow out of the picture, Maye and the Patriots have a great shot at making a deep run in the playoffs. For now, they must win everything to acquire the postseason bye.
