To focus on family and other interests outside racing, Sebastian Vettel decided to retire from the sport. He had nothing left to prove after winning four world titles with Red Bull.

The 2025 driver market saw significant changes. Sebastian Vettel, who retired at the end of the 2022 season, was linked to several teams, especially Audi where he would partner Nico Hulkenberg. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, who worked with the four-time champion, initially confirmed this news.

However, the 81-year-old later stated that Vettel was out of contact and in a location with no network, making his F1 return doubtful. Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s former technical chief who will join Aston Martin next season, also expressed doubts about Vettel’s return during a recent podcast.

His return? No, I don’t see it as possible. He’s enjoying his life and has moved on. He’s doing different things and that’s a credit to him.

Adrian Newey said in High Performance Podcast

Formula 1 drivers constantly travel to various countries for races, limiting their time with their families and children. Vettel felt he had done enough and decided to pursue other activities which would make him happy.

Former F1 driver Christian Danner claims he’s the only one to reject working with Adrian Newey

Adrian Newey, regarded as one of F1’s greatest car designers, significantly boosts any team he joins. In his 18-year career with Red Bull, Newey led the team to six Constructors’ titles and helped various drivers secure titles, showcasing his technical expertise. His presence provides a clear competitive edge to his team.

However, former F1 driver Christian Danner rejected working with the aero-genius, believing that their shared inexperience at the time wouldn’t have been beneficial. Danner admitted this was an unusual and perhaps regrettable decision, something both he and Newey still laugh about.

I’m the only person in the world of motor racing who has ever said I don’t want to work with Adrian Newey, which is kind of a rotten privilege.

Christian Danner told Formula Scout

Newey is considered one of the best in Formula 1 technology and aerodynamics and has decided to lead Red Bull. This sparked speculation about his next move and Ferrari initially emerged as a top contender, where he would team up with Lewis Hamilton. However, Aston Martin recently confirmed Newey’s signing as their Managing Technical Partner in a $100 million deal.
