Adrian Newey shocked the entire paddock by deeming a late-career switch to Aston Martin from the 2025 season. The aero-genius ditched his long-time team Red Bull in Formula 1 and will take all his knowledge to Silverstone. However, the 66-year-old made a shocking revelation about his contribution to Aston Martin’s challenger in the upcoming season.

Adrian Newey‘s exceptional understanding of the ground-effect era regulations enabled Red Bull to gain monumental success in recent years. This meant that Aston Martin’s deteriorating form could take a massive turn if Newey were to work on the 2025 chassis. However, Newey recently revealed that he might not be directly involved in the development of AMR25.

Newey is set to join Aston Martin from the 2nd of March which means that the chassis would be completed already. As a result, the 66-year-old would not have a direct influence on the chassis design or development. Hence, the aero genius reckoned that he would help the team whenever possible. Moreover, the Englishman was clueless about the exact details of his work with the team during his initial days.

If I can really contribute in any way, I will. I have no idea and I won’t have it until I start my work.

Adrian Newey said, as reported by formulapassion.

Adrian Newey did not ‘feel at peace’ at Red Bull

Adrian Newey who was a key asset to Red Bull since 2006 was not much keen on continuing working due to multiple major reasons. The 66-year-old revealed that the team dragged him to races just for the sake of PR during his final days.

Newey highlighted that he wouldn’t believe one year ago that he would leave Milton Keynes and start over. The aero genius asserted that he did not feel at peace with the Austrian constructor and made the decision to leave the team.

If just 12 months ago they had told me that I would leave Red Bull and start over, I would have said: ‘No, you’re crazy.’ For various reasons, however, I felt that I would not be at peace with myself to stay at Red Bull. The first difficult decision was precisely to ask myself if I wanted to stay at Red Bull. And I came to the conclusion that, out of honesty to myself, I couldn’t stay.

Adrian Newey added

Aston Martin’s performance in the 2024 season was dissatisfactory, to say the least. The Silverstone-based constructor must find notable improvements to retain Fernando Alonso in their lineup. Moreover, the team must improve significantly if they want to poach Max Verstappen even at an exorbitant amount.
