The Alpine Formula 1 team will have an exciting line-up for this year. Pierre Gasly will be partnered by Jack Doohan, whose junior career was supported by the French team. However, uncertainty might already be looming over the 21-year-old’s stint in Formula 1.

Doohan replaced Esteban Ocon at the Enstone-based squad from the Abu Dhabi GP last year. 2025 will be the Australian’s real debut at the pinnacle of motorsport. He was promoted after the team failed to lure Carlos Sainz, who instead joined Williams.

The 21-year-old has high ambitions for his career with Alpine in Formula 1. Though, it seems that Alpine’s Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore is reconsidering Jack Doohan‘s entry due to the even stronger rise of Williams’ Franco Colapinto.

Franco Colapinto’s Alpine deal a bad sign for Jack Doohan

Williams’ Franco Colapinto shocked the F1 paddock with a stellar debut in 2024 replacing Logan Sargeant mid-season. The Argentine driver scored points for the Grove-based squad despite having a tricky car. Even Red Bull was rumored to be interested in bringing Colapinto under its umbrella for this season.

However, reports soon emerged that Briatore was highly impressed by the Williams prodigy. So much so that Jack Doohan might’ve been replaced by Colapinto before the start of 2025. Ultimately, Alpine signed a reserve deal with the Argentine driver.

This gives a reality check to Doohan. If the Australian driver fails to deliver during his rookie season, Flavio Briatore will waste no time in bringing Franco Colapinto in his place. Even a couple of rough weekends could lead to such a shake-up within the team. Jack Doohan might be worried to see his team show faith in a rival driver.

It is likely that Jack Doohan will be given the chance to prove himself over the course of 2025. However, Alpine could consider Colapinto as a replacement for next season if the Australian driver falls behind expectations. Fans would hope that Doohan can defy this situation and do the talking on-track in the upcoming season.
