Michael Andretti did everything in his power to have his own team in Formula 1. All attempts made by the 62-year-old have been unsuccessful in bringing the iconic Andretti name back to the pinnacle of motorsport. Now, it seems that it might be over for Andretti-Cadillac.
The 62-year-old first tried to acquire Sauber before F1’s recent rise in popularity courtesy of Drive to Survive. After this failure, Michael Andretti partnered with General Motors to launch a joint bid in the form of Andretti-Cadillac. The all-American proposal even got the green light from the FIA.
Despite FIA’s approval, Formula 1 rejected Andretti-Cadillac’s bid during commercial negotiations. FOM did leave the door open for a potential entry in 2028 with Cadillac power units. However, it seems that Michael Andretti has finally put an end to his F1 ambitions.
Michael Andretti’s exit from Andretti Global ownership ends F1 dreams
The American racing legend has officially stepped back from ownership of Andretti Global, the organization behind Andretti’s F1 bid. This came as a major shock to many as Michael Andretti had insisted he was going to keep trying to enter Formula 1.
Moreover, Zak Brown replaced Andretti in the role for just a month before quitting himself. This has raised concerns over instability and a lack of plan within Andretti Global. Having someone like Brown take charge was definitely a smart move. But it seems that things have backfired on Andretti.
Michael Andretti has yet to make any public statements regarding the reshuffle of his organization. However, it seems that the 62-year-old has finally run out of moves in his tussle with Formula 1. There has been no news of Andretti-Cadillac’s new attempts to enter the sport, even for 2028. With GM not giving any updates on its proposed power units project.
Certainly, it is a shame to not have a name like Andretti in Formula 1. Despite coming close to securing a spot at the pinnacle of motorsport, Michael Andretti has failed to succeed. Although, it remains to be heard, an official comment from Andretti-Cadillac over its future plans.
