Audi F1 project goes through major reshuffle with ex-Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto’s arrival

The F1 grid is highly anticipating Audi’s entry into the sport by 2026 season after acquiring Kick Sauber. The German carmaker has already acquired Nico Hulkenberg in the drivers’ lineup. Hence, the team will continue to work with their crew and crucial team members. Recently, Audi unveiled the entry of F1 stalwart, Mattia Binotto.

The former Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto led the Italian outfit for multiple years before exiting the team amidst failing performances. However, Audi has showcased great faith in the Italian engineer to lead their highly aspiring project at the pinnacle of motorsport. Binotto will lead the team and become Audi’s chief operating and technical officer.

Audi’s CEO Gernot Dollner further applauded Binotto’s experience of 25 years in F1. Additionally, the CEO believed the Italian engineer would contribute massively to Audi’s highly exciting project. Time will tell about how the 54-year-old fares against the German carmaker’s hopes in F1.

Multiple key figures of Sauber will subsequently leave after the major rebranding and acquisition of the team. Audi’s entry in F1 is looking extremely strong as they continue to obtain major names. The 2026 regulations will further showcase more exciting scenarios for the German carmaker’s arrival.

Chairman of all Sauber companies Oliver Hoffmann and CEO of Sauber motorsports Andreas Seidl will leave the team as part of the re-alignment.

Keeping in view everything that’s been discussed, the 2026 season is looking highly promising in terms of different situations for the teams by then. The current level of competition and performance could see a massive shift due to the major changes in multiple teams. As things stand, Audi could prove to be a major midfield player in the constructors’ championship.
