Ayrton Senna’s iconic debut Formula 1 car is now up for auction at an exorbitant price. The Brazilian debuted in the pinnacle of motorsport back in 1984 at the Brazilian GP. Though Senna’s very first race in F1 ended in disappointment, the car remained one of the most iconic ones throughout the season.

Now, Ayrton Senna’s 1984 Toleman TG183B will be sold to the highest bidder during the auction. According to reports, the challenger could be contested at around $4.4 million. Notably, Senna earned his first career points with this very car at the 1984 South African GP, finishing sixth. The car will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s, which often dabbles in auctions of iconic Formula 1 cars.

The iconic TG183B has been driven by multiple notable people in Formula 1. The ex-F1 driver-turned-analyst, Martin Brundle, piloted the challenger in 2022, followed by Pierre Gasly driving the car at Silverstone in 2024. Apart from the TG183B, the 1993 McLaren MP4/8A is among the top ten most expensive F1 cars to be auctioned off.

Apart from Ayrton Senna’s achievements in the car, it contains a period-correct Hart 415T engine coupled with a rebuilt gearbox. Certainly, these cars are never seen on the road as they are not road legal. However, it is a collector’s dream to have some of the world’s highly equipped single-seaters being displayed in their garage. The auction will take place in Monaco,

Pierre Gasly reveals ’emotional’ feelings after piloting Ayrton Senna’s TG183B

Pierre Gasly is one of the very few people in the world who has piloted Ayrton Senna’s challenger in Formula 1. The Frenchman piloted the car back in 2024 at the Silverstone circuit, marking the 40th anniversary of the legend’s F1 debut, and 30 years since his tragic crash that claimed his life. After driving the car around the circuit, Gasly felt at a loss for words to describe the feeling he had while driving the car.

Pierre Gasly highlighted that he couldn’t recall such an incredible driving experience. He pointed out that driving Ayrton Senna’s first-ever F1 car exceeded all expectations he had and that he felt very emotional. Gasly also highlighted the differences between the modern F1 cars and the previous ones, noting how simple they were to drive. The Frenchman believed that this experience was once-in-a-lifetime, which he would never forget.

I can’t remember such an incredible experience, Driving Senna’s first-ever F1 car exceeded all my expectations. It was so emotional. I had never before been in a racing car older than me and the purity of the driving was incredible – just three pedals and a simple steering wheel, quite unlike what I’m used to in a modern F1 car. It was a once-in-a-lifetime episode that I will never forget. Very, very special.

Pierre Gasly said, as reported by motorsport.com.

The auction will go live on 24th and 25th April, and interested buyers can place their bids on the RM Sotheby’s official website. It is great to see just how thrilled people are to maintain Ayrton Senna’s legacy in Formula 1 and never forget him. Senna is often referred to as the greatest driver to race in the pinnacle of motorsport, with no other driver being regarded as high as the three-time champion.
