The recent Singapore GP faced multiple issues, particularly with its live broadcast. Despite a lack of racing action throughout the event, the coverage failed to show key overtakes, including Carlos Sainz’s impressive charge from P18 to P10. Instead, the broadcast focused on drivers’ partners and family members. Frustrated by the deteriorating quality of F1 coverage, Sainz fired some shots at FOM.
The 2025 Singapore GP was relatively quiet with no safety cars or major incidents among the drivers throughout the race. Only Lando Norris‘ questionable move against Oscar Piastri on Lap 1 was one of the more interesting moments in the race. However, in the final stages, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton had an interesting battle with the former even lashing out on the team radio because of how the events unfolded.
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz drove a beautiful race and finished in P10 despite starting from P18 because of Qualifying disqualifications. Surprisingly, none of these events were correctly broadcasted on television by the FOM. Rather, celebrities and partners were shown more than the actual racing events towards the end of the race. Because of this, the Spaniard wasn’t too impressed and berated the situation.
An F1 spokesperson has responded to these comments from Carlos Sainz and provided clarity on the matter. They asserted that FOM always focused on giving the fans the best possible footage of the race and not compromising the key moments. The spokesperson added that the team covered such complex moments with great care and also provided a good context of the situation.
They added that the FOM tried their best to provide equal importance to high-profile guests and the local audiences of the racing location. The spokesperson reassured that the management team was in pursuit of improvement and excellence and delivered the best possible results.
We always focus on giving our fans the best possible footage of the race and never compromise the key focus – the racing on track, Our team does a great job of covering a highly complex situation with multiple cars at different points on a track and also provide great context moments of the grandstands, high profile guests and the locations we race at. We are always in pursuit of excellence and improvement in what we deliver.
An F1 spokesperson said, as reported by motorsport.com.
Carlos Sainz criticizes FOM’s ‘trend’ to focus more on girlfriends than racing action
During regular races, FOM usually highlights people related to the driver who has just been involved in an on-track incident. This adds a sense of realism and shows the tension and nerves among family members outside the cockpit. However, Carlos Sainz believes that such moments should not be prioritized over the actual racing action.

Carlos Sainz revealed that it has now become a trend to showcase partners and celebrities rather than racing action. The Spaniard acknowledged that at one point it might have worked out for the FOM, and people found it interesting to see such moments.
Sainz even accepted that during a tense moment, it was understandable to show the parents or partners. The 31-year-old continued that it worked in the past, and hence the FOM would keep on doing it.
It’s becoming a bit of a trend, It must have worked for them at one time, that people found it interesting to see our girlfriends, to see famous people on TV, their reactions and so on. I understand that if there is an overtaking manoeuvre, a very tense moment in the race, then showing a shot of their reaction is understandable. If the production team sees that it has worked in the past, then they will do it.
Carlos Sainz told Spanish radio station Cadena COPE’s “El Partidazo”
Regardless of the TV coverage, races have definitely been a lot more interesting this year on all fronts. Even if FOM fails to cover the event live, the videos and key moments are published shortly after on Social Media for everyone to see. Hence, the pinnacle of motorsport will definitely try to improve on this fact and further make the sport all the more appealing for wider audiences.
