Carlos Sainz had started the 2024 season in a great fashion with Ferrari despite being ousted by the team unexpectedly. The Spaniard even scored a race win amidst Red Bull’s dominant start. However, Sainz missed out on major points after missing out on the Saudi Arabian GP due to appendicitis. As a result, the 29-year-old isn’t focused on beating Charles Leclerc down the season.

Carlos Sainz is currently P4 in the drivers’ championship and just 15 points behind Charles Leclerc. The Spaniard still has a long way to go in beating the Monegasque in the 2024 season. The 29-year-old pointed out that after missing out on the Saudi Arabian GP, he wasn’t much concerned about the position. The reason was that he was one race behind his rivals, ignoring the fact that the majority of them also missed out on some races.

Since I lost the race in Jeddah I'm trying not to look too much at the world rankings, because I'm racing with these guys but having done one race less.
Carlos Sainz said during a post-session interivew.

Additionally, Carlos Sainz highlighted that he tried to dedicate his performances to winning and scoring podiums. The 29-year-old was least concerned with the drivers’ championship due to the major disadvantage to him. Subsequently, Sainz pointed out that it wasn’t easy to compete against the best drivers after missing out on one race.

I dedicate myself above all to trying to get on the podium, to trying to win. I don't concentrate much on the world championship, it's not easy to compete against the best in the world facing them with one GP less.

Regardless, Sainz is extremely positive and looks at the benefits of the situation. After scoring five podiums out of the ten total outings, the Spaniard labeled his statistics as good. Apart from this, the 29-year-old reckoned that he was in great form this year.

But still so far I think I have reached the podium five times out of ten, also winning a race. It’s a really good statistic, I think my driving this year is good.
Carlos Sainz noted.

Sainz has continuously been considered for a seat in multiple teams for the coming season. However, the Spaniard has decided to play the waiting game and look for the best opportunity. Regardless, the 29-year-old will have to soon decide his future in the pinnacle of motorsport.
