Scuderia Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc has opened up after the team’s mediocre outing in Barcelona. Ferrari finished the race P5 and P6, having failed to improve on the starting positions despite tough tussles with opponents.
Ferrari was the slowest amongst Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes during the Spanish GP as the outfit missed out on podiums for the second race in a row. The magnificent motorsport barons have now scored just 18 points since their brilliant win in Monaco which puts them right at the cusp of third place McLaren in the constructors championship.
Charles Leclerc said that the team faced severe difficulty around the medium-to-high-speed corners at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, despite bringing in new upgrades to the car. Leclerc has hence asserted that these issues with Ferrari are not ones to be solved imminently and will require time and effort to arrive at a solution.
The first difficult race of the season was Shanghai where we saw some things, and here we see it again, and we have got to focus on that. But before putting those upgrades on one specific issue, we need a bit of time and unfortunately, in a race, even if the season is 24 races long, we still need to be back as quick as possible. Leclerc further commented that the issues with the car around high and medium-speed corners have been persistent since the race in Shanghai. They will require to be fixed as soon as possible in order to pull their situation out of jeopardy. Ferrari now heads into the Austrian GP desperately in search of a win or podiums to make up for the points lost in Montreal and Barcelona.
Fred Vasseur claims tiniest of details will make the difference in Spielberg
Ferrari boss, Fred Vasseur has shared his thoughts ahead of this week’s event, stating that his team will be looking to focus tenfold to score good points around the Red Bull Ring. The Maranello-based team currently stands second in the championship but trails the leaders, Red Bull, by 60 points.
Now we have Austria, a track that takes just a little over a minute to lap, so that those aforementioned gaps could become even smaller. We will be focusing completely on ourselves, because in Spielberg each tiny detail can make a difference.Fred Vasseur via grandprix247
Fred Vasseur elaborated that the top four teams on the grid are currently separated by less than three-tenths between them, which makes all the races even more challenging. Vasseur also said that the margins will be tighter than ever in Spielberg, which is a track that takes only about a minute and a few seconds to lap.
Ferrari won the Austrian GP in 2022 after a terrific performance by Charles Leclerc who outpaced Red Bull on all fronts. The Maranello-based outfit will be looking to conjure some of that same mastery in the upcoming weekend as they aim for their third win of the season.
