Charles Leclerc poured water on McLaren’s hopes of victory at Monza. Despite Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri starting from the front row, Leclerc’s strategy led McLaren to make mistakes and lose positions. The 26-year-old took advantage of this and won the race at Ferrari’s home turf, repeating his 2019 victory.

Charles Leclerc emphasized the need for Ferrari to be cautious after his recent victory in Monza. The Italian GP was his second win this year since the Monaco GP in May. He noted that Ferrari had struggled in the four races following Monaco because those races presented more challenges. Leclerc explained that Monaco was a special race that perfectly suited their car at that time and all other tracks were not the best.

We've got to be cautious. After Monaco, I think we've had the four worst races of the season, because Monaco was so specific to our car at that time.

Leclerc highlighted that Monza, like Monaco, is a unique track with many long straights and only a few corners. Due to this layout, they used a special rear wing designed specifically for Monza. He explained that this wing improved their performance and played a key role in their win.

Monza is also a very specific and particular track. Lots of straights, not many corners. We had a rear wing for this track as well, which helped us to win today.

Charles Leclerc admits new upgrades not sufficient to secure more victories in 2024

Charles Leclerc explained that they introduced another upgrade to their car, which helped them get closer to McLaren’s performance. However, he believed that this upgrade alone isn’t enough to make their car the best on other tracks for the rest of the season. He reckoned there is still a lot of work needed to improve further. Despite this, Leclerc was still very happy with their win in Italy.

We also had another upgrade, which I think definitely brought us closer to McLaren, but I don't think it's enough to be the car to beat for the rest of the season on other tracks. I think we still have a lot of work to do, but I'm really happy anyway to have one here in Italy.
Charles Leclerc stated.

Certainly, while the new upgrade has improved Ferrari’s performance, it’s not enough to guarantee success in future races. Leclerc emphasized that the team needs to continue working hard to maintain their win rate in future races. Fans hope this consistency remains and the 26-year-old keeps fighting for the championship titles.
