Ferrari began the season as the closest competitor to Red Bull, but they have slowed their development racing progress since then. They scored P2 and P3 positions in the early stages of the season. However, as the season progressed, they faced a slump in performances due to McLaren’s improvements. Despite the setback and the unpredictable nature of ground-effect cars, Leclerc pointed out the turning point of their performance in 2024.
Charles Leclerc in a recent interview stated that from the Spanish GP, the team experienced a significant turning point. They faced many challenges and difficulties rather than improvements in their performance. Even though the data indicated that the car has potential, they started facing challenges. These issues caused Ferrari to suffer with their performance a lot. The team struggled with multiple challenges which had a big impact on their results.
From Spain onwards, I think this was more the turning point where we brought something on the car, which the numbers, as I've always said, were there.Charles Leclerc told Motorsport.com
Leclerc explained that the new changes introduced at the Spanish GP caused a lot of bouncing. He said this issue led to a very poor race for him. To address the problem, Ferrari made bold adjustments to the 26-year-old’s setup in the last four races. They did this to find a solution for the bouncing Charles Leclerc faced. After trying different strategies and settings, they aimed to improve the car’s performance and handling.
However, it induced quite a lot of bouncing that we've been struggling with. And on my side, specifically, I went very aggressive in the last four races with set-up, especially, trying to find solutions for that.Charles Leclerc added.
Charles Leclerc admits bouncing is the main cause for Ferrari’s struggles
Charles Leclerc explained that, among all the problems they faced during the races, bouncing was mainly responsible. He said that this bouncing made their performance inconsistent in the last few races. As a result, the team struggled more than they did at the beginning of the season. Leclerc placed the blame on the bouncing, which Ferrari needed to fix before the season resumes. Currently, Ferrari sits in third place in the Constructors’ Championship, and to either defend that position or move up to second, they need significant adjustments. Ultimately, the performance also depends on how well Leclerc and Sainz drive during the remaining season.
I will put that mostly on bouncing. The bouncing is what created the inconsistencies that we have seen in the last few races, and made us struggle a bit more than before that.Charles Leclerc stated.
Therefore, Ferrari needs to address the errors as soon as possible, with the summer break nearing its end. The last 10 rounds of the season will be highly competitive and tough, as the top four teams have made significant improvements, which became evident in the first half of the season. Fans are excited for the second half of the season and hope Ferrari will return to the strong performance they showed earlier.
