The Spanish GP proved to be another challenging weekend for Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver struggled to deliver his best performance. Perez secured eight position in the race, while teammate Max Verstappen won his seventh race of the season.

Christian Horner defended Sergio Perez‘s performance, highlighting overall success for the team. He mentioned, if he’s not mistaken the lead has extended even though Perez didn’t perform well. The 50-year-old stated, the team needs Checo, which means they understand the importance of Mexican being among the leading drivers. Horner explained, if Perez finishes at a lower end of top eight, it limits their strategic options during the race.

We need Checo in the mix, he and the team know that. If he’s on the back end of the top eight you lose strategic options, whether you split it or so on.

Checo in the first four, five races this year was fantastic, we just need to get him back into that headspace.
Christian Horner stated

Christian Horner is hopeful Sergio Perez can gain ‘confidence’ from his recovery into the points.

Horner explained that Sergio Perez has had some tough races lately, but things just didn’t work out for him as he might’ve planned. The 34-year-old’s performance was very much tied to his confidence.
Not getting the result he wanted affected his overall performance. Perez is a type of driver who needs confidence to perform his best. When his confidence is high, he races better and gets strong results.

He had a couple of difficult races, things haven’t gone his way. He’s a confidence-driven driver.

The Mexican did well in the Spanish GP by finishing in the top 10 and scoring some points. Horner hoped, this result would bring confidence in Checo and he would perform better in future races. Overall, his main point was, that Perez’s decent performance in Spain could be a turning point for him to regain his strong form.

He’s back on the points here and drove a decent race, hopefully, he’ll take some confidence out of that for the coming races.
Christian Horner added

Certainly, Christian Horner felt that although Perez didn’t perform well he contributed to the team by finishing in the top 10. This might boost his confidence in upcoming races and he might perform well. Fans are eager to see the Mexican back in action with his teammate and help the team maintain a strong lead.
