Red Bull Racing extended Sergio Perez‘s contract recently. The Mexican driver will be racing for Milton Keynes for the next two seasons. However, rumors have emerged that the 34-year-old could be replaced if he doesn’t improve his results. Interestingly, Red Bull reserve Liam Lawson will be testing the Red Bull RB20 this week.
Team Principal Christian Horner highlighted that even he will be driving the championship-winning RB8 from the 2012 season. However, the Briton affirmed that Liam Lawson‘s test in the RB20 was planned weeks ago and it is simply an aero run for the team.
I'm actually doing a lap at Silverstone in the RB8 on Thursday as well, so you never know. In all seriousness, the Liam test is aero run has been planned for a couple of months now.Christian Horner said, as reported by RacingNews365
Nevertheless, Horner made it clear that Sergio Perez was under pressure to perform. The Mexican driver had yet another horrible weekend at the last race in Silverstone and scored no points. Although, Christian Horner claimed that such pressure is normal in Formula 1.
But of course, Checo is under pressure, that's that's normal in Formula 1.Christian Horner stated
Christian Horner claims ‘nothing has gone’ in Sergio Perez’s way
Sergio Perez was knocked out in Qualifying at the British GP after beaching his car in the gravel. Things did not improve on Sunday, as the 34-year-old could only achieve seventeenth place in the race. As a race strategy gamble did not pay off for the Mexican driver.
Christian Horner claimed that when a driver is underperforming like Sergio Perez, the pressure simply keeps mounting. The Briton reckoned that Checo was aware of the rising pressure with Daniel Ricciardo rumored to replace the Mexican. However. Horner admitted that nothing went in Perez’s way throughout the British GP weekend.
When you're under-delivering that pressure only mounts and he's aware of that, he knows that and this weekend, nothing has really gone his way.Christian Horner stated
Certainly, Sergio Perez needs to bounce back if he wants to continue racing at Red Bull. The 34-year-old could soon be at risk of being demoted to RB or perhaps be sacked altogether. Fans would be looking forward to seeing how things pan out for Checo in the coming weeks.
