Red Bull team boss Christian Horner expressed his views on the most important aspects of 2026 F1 regulations. The 50-year-old believes there will have to be compromises between teams over the 2026 F1 ruleset. Horner believes, compromises between teams can be seen over these regulations.

Christian Horner used a quote from Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus. The Briton cracked a joke about how teams might decide whether to participate in 2026 regulations. Chapman’s quote suggests that he would evaluate the rules first before committing to participate. Similarly, Horner implies that teams might priorities their own interests rather than cooperating for the common good of the sport.

It's tricky, isn't it? As Colin Chapman used to say, show me the rules, and I'll decide if I enter or not," the Red Bull team principal joked when asked if individual selfishness could derail teams working together on the 2026 regulations.

The 50-year-old expressed, every team involved within this will have to make compromises when deciding on the new regulations. Horner reckoned it’s important to allow enough flexibility in rules so that each car can be different from the others. This way, the excitement of seeing diverse designs on the track can be maintained, rather than all the cars looking exactly the same.

And I think it's the same for everybody, there's going to be compromises. I think the most important thing is that there's enough freedom for there to be differential between the cars so they don't all look identical.

Christian Horner claims teams must find ‘balance’ between engine and chassis

Christian Horner talked about how F1 is changing with the new set of rules, where he mentions the budget cap rule, which limits how much money teams can spend. Horner reckoned despite this limit there’s still room for engineering creativity. The 50-year-old believes Formula one should not be based on batteries and fuel only, teams must focus on combining different parts of the car like chassis and engine. This means if any team who doesn’t have a faster engine, they can make up for it with a better chassis design and vise versa.

We have a budget cap, and the engineering creativity is there so that it doesn't just become a battery-fuel formula, it becomes chassis-engine combination. And if you don't have the best engine, maybe you can compensate a bit on the chassis and, and vice versa.

The 50-year-old reckoned there should be balance in rules of the sport. Horner believes, Nikolas Tombazis, who works with FIA understands this balance. Horner hopes that Tombazis would consider this as a issue and the regulations created further will be practical and reasonable. Christian Horner has backed the FIA over the new rules.

So I think it's finding that balance, which I think Nikolas Tombazis, is very aware of, and I think hopefully the recommendations that will come back will be sensible.
Christian Horner added

Overall, Christian Horner believes the rules should be fair and practical to all teams so that each team can provide a different perspectives of their creation of cars. The balance between improvements and problems shall be maintained, different cars should be present on grid so it doesn’t interrupt fans excitement.
