Christian Horner remained very relevant in the Formula 1 community despite his disappointing exit from Red Bull mid-way through the 2025 season. Horner was rumored to be considering a leadership role at multiple other teams, with Alpine and Ferrari being the frontrunners. Though nothing came of it yet, the Englishman is now reportedly in negotiations to buy major shares of the Alpine F1 team.
Ryan Reynolds, Michael B. Jordan, and a couple of other athletes and celebrities combined own an approximate of 24% in Alpine’s Formula 1 team. The two Hollywood stars are often seen during F1 weekends donning their support for the French constructor. Meanwhile, Christian Horner was rumored to want a more Toto Wolff-like leader role at a team in Formula 1.
As such, if Christian Horner manages to purchase a stake in Alpine’s F1 team, he can fulfill his dream of owning a part of the team while leading it. Additionally, the team’s current team principal, Flavio Briatore, has good relations with Horner, which could lead to a positive deal in the latter’s favor. Briatore confirmed that talks were ongoing between the former Red Bull principal and Otro Capital (a private investment firm owning 24% stake in Alpine).
Speaking on his relations with Christian Horner, Flavio Briatore noted that he had known the former for a very long time now. However, the deal to purchase a share in Alpine was not related to Briatore in any way. The 2009 Crashgate Scandal mastermind revealed that one needed to purchase Otro Capital’s shareholding before Renault accepted the purchase. The Italian reiterated that he was not involved in the dealings for the shares of the team.
I’ve known Christian for many years. I talk with Christian anyway, but this has nothing to do with me. First, you need to buy Otro [its shareholding]. After Renault needs to accept the buyer, and after that, we see what will happen. But there’s no link with me, because he’s negotiating with Otro, he’s not negotiating with us.
Flavio Briatore said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Flavio Briatore labels Christian Horner a ‘good asset’ to Alpine
Certainly, Christian Horner’s experience of leading an F1 team cannot be discounted, especially after his dominant championship-winning streak with Red Bull. The Englishman overlooked eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ championships with Milton Keynes over two decades. As such, Flavio Briatore isn’t concerned with the 52-year-old’s resume leading a team in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Flavio Briatore hinted that everyone who joined Alpine with the right vision was a good asset to the team. However, it also depended on the role they played within the constructor. Briatore reassured that he had no problem with Horner joining the team after purchasing the stakes. Moreover, the Italian insisted that there were multiple groups talking to him about investing in the team, while he did not care about it at all.
[There are] A few groups [interested]. I don’t know how many – six, seven. Every day, there is a new group. Every day, people call me about Otro. I don’t care. I think everybody’s a good asset to the team, depending on what position you put the people. No problem.
Flavio Briatore noted.
As of now, nothing is certain as Christian Horner has not formally commented on the matter. The Briton will certainly be hoping for an F1 return as he was one of the better team principals on the grid, despite his difficulties in recent years. Horner was also paid a massive sum by the team to formally end his contract, as he definitely has the funds to purchase a stake in Alpine’s Formula 1 team.
