Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has talked of RB20’s shortfalls ahead of an important race at Baku. The Milton-Keynes-based team has been winless since the last six races, facing various issues with their car.

Red Bull kicked-off the 2024 season with seven wins out of a possible ten, looking to replicate their dominance of the previous season. However, the team’s performance has been greatly hindered due to some prevalent issues.

You’ve got to question everything. You have to question has something else changed? So you can leave no stone unturned.
Christian Horner told the media including RacingNews365

The Milton-Keynes-based team is being challenged greatly by McLaren, who now trail merely by eight points in the constructors’ championship. Horner will therefore hope that his team works day and night to present a better functioning car in a week.

Christian Horner identifies possible approaches to resolve RB20’s woes

The RB20 looked powerless against the likes of Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari at the Italian Grand Prix last week. Despite bringing in upgrades and changes to their car, Red Bull has failed to build on any significant upsurge this campaign.

I think what we really need to do is get the [aero] map working. If you look at the McLaren, it almost looks like an evolution of last year's car, a much simpler car than ours. Perhaps we've gone a little too complex and perhaps we need to simplify a few things. We've hit the ceiling in certain areas and the car's disconnected. Sometimes maybe, to have slightly less load but an overall better balance will generate better lap time, better degradation, and better tyre management.

Horner claimed that his team might have overly complicated their designs and approaches in order to attain better results. He feels that a simpler take, prioritizing better tire degradation and lesser load, will be beneficial for Red Bull in the long run.

The 50-year-old took the example of McLaren, pinpointing their immense success with an ultimately simpler approach. The Milton-Keynes team’s hopes now rest on their upgrades for the RB20 and considering everything that’s been discussed, several eyes will be glued on them during the Baku weekend.
