The Red Bull F1 team did not have the best of outings at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. Max Verstappen managed a sixth-place finish whereas Sergio Perez came away with a disappointing DNF.
Red Bull boss, Christian Horner has been keeping tabs on the situation in the 2024 Championship-bout and thus, has asked Sergio Perez to up his game. Horner wants the Mexican driver to be performing at the level he showcased during the initial rounds of the campaign.

After eight rounds, the 34-year-old has amassed 107 points in the Drivers’ Championship.
The weekend was pretty brutal for him. We obviously need to make sure that we get both cars up there scoring points. Because we cannot dismiss the threat of Ferrari and McLaren in both championships - we will make a decision in the fullness of time.Christian Horner said in an interview with racingnews365
Looking at the reaction of Horner, it is quite clear that Red Bull has started to feel the heat in both the constructors as well as the drivers’ world championships after the recent Monaco GP. McLaren and Ferrari have been performing at an extremely high level since the last few races.
Sergio Perez feels Kevin Magnussen drove ‘dangerously’ during the Monaco GP
While Horner had asked Perez to up his game in the upcoming races, the latter feels his Monaco DNF could have been avoided. Moreover, he completely blames Haas’ Kevin Magnussen for their lap 1 crash at the street circuit.

The FIA deemed the incident as a racing incident and did not investigate it further.
This was more dangerous driving, just to keep it flat out knowing that there was going to come contact at some point. I think that was some dangerous driving. We need to ask for a reason why it’s not been investigated because without an investigation we don’t get a reason why it wasn’t a penalty. I’m really surprised.Sergio Perez said in an interview with The Guardian
After Monaco, Sergio Perez finds himself in fifth place in the drivers’ world championship. While Red Bull is still leading in the constructors, the gap has been significantly reduced by Ferrari.
The Maranello-based team is only 24 points behind and considering this, Christian Horner’s concerns are totally understandable. Perez needs to fire on all cylinders from Canada onwards, otherwise, he could lose out on a potential contract extension with the team for 2025.
