I Just wonder, what would happen if Adrian[Newey] was looking around and was thinking about McLaren as a team to go to. They’ve already shown that they’re going in the right direction, they’re definitely a team on the make.
Damon Hill said in an interview Sky Sports F1

The former champion has experience of driving Newey-made cars in his time and knows the exceptional talent of the British designer. Moreover, it is a well-known fact that the Brit has a tendency to involve himself in long-term projects. The Woking-based squad is on the rise so it could be a perfect match for him to help a team return to the top once again.

Martin Brundle claims it will be a “double whammy” for Red Bull if they lose Adrian Newey

Following the speculation, Martin Brundle deemed Newey to be one of the hottest properties in the market.

Teams with the funds and resource will have been courting Adrian Newey for a while. If and when he becomes available it’s a double whammy for any team, they’ll have access to his experience and genius, and it stops another team having him.
Martin Brundle said in an interview

The 64-year-old claimed that teams with surplus funds would open up their pockets to attract the Brit to their team. Subsequently, a team like Ferrari could buy out Newey from his current contract if he shows interest in joining Maranello. This would be a double whammy for the Austrian giant as they would lose the experience as well as his expertise in one go.

Despite the rumors, Red Bull has dismissed such speculations and is adamant that the Englishman would stay with them. However, the silly season has just begun, and anything is possible due to the volatile nature of the transfer market.
