Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher recently came out as gay after he took to Instagram to share his relationship status. Subsequently, multiple drivers and teams flooded the German with supportive messages. Ex-F1 champion Damon Hill was happy for the 49-year-old regardless of never being able to have a stable bond with the former race winner.
F1 has been making strides in increasing the inclusivity worldwide and making racing accessible for all despite their race, sexual orientation, etc. The championship has had queer drivers earlier and they aimed to make a statement that ‘love is love’ despite different ideologies. Similarly, Ralf Schumacher confessed about his sexual orientation by posting a picture of him with his male partner.
Ralf Schumacher’s son had recently expressed his happiness regarding his father finally being happy, to which Damon Hill replied that he was also happy for the German despite never ‘clicking’ with the 49-year-old.
Mate, I never really clicked with Ralf[Schumacher] But I'm happy he's happy Sincerely We get our knickers in a twist about sexuality Its not a choice You either are or you aren't one way or another As long as there is love and respect, its cool. 'Whatever gets you through the night' LennonDamon Hill said on X
The Brit claimed that he never had a stable bond with Ralf Schumacher, but he explained that he was happy for his former rival. Furthermore, he stated that there is nothing wrong with confessing about your sexual orientation as long as there is love and respect in the relationship.
Damon Hill delines Red Bull’s problems
While Hill gave his views on Schumacher coming out as gay, the 63-year-old has been a staple of the series and his experience helps him untangle the secrets enveloped in the paddock. Subsequently, witnessing the problems experienced by reigning champions Red Bull, he was able to understand the intricacies of the Austrian giant.
Hill elaborated that while other teams have made gains, the Milton Keynes-based squad has been stagnant. Moreover, observing the troubles going on at Red Bull, he anticipates Mercedes, McLaren or Ferrari to pounce back at the bulls.
The former world champion claimed that Red Bull have hit the development ceiling.
They[other teams] have made gains and Red Bull are not able to make gains. They may have hit the ceiling, and so for this last half of this season, I think there's going to be a lot of victories out there on the table for the taking either by Mercedes or McLaren, or even Ferrari.Damon Hill said on the F1 nation podcast
Despite Hill’s optimism, Red Bull has a 71-point lead over Ferrari. Thus, with a huge advantage over its nearest competitor, it would take a streak of bad races for the Austrian giant to diminish their lead in the constructor’s standings.
