Daniel Ricciardo has been rumored to be at risk of being replaced by Red Bull after the Singapore GP this weekend. He expressed a desire not to switch teams if that happens, leaving his next steps uncertain. Drivers often face a choice between continuing their careers in other racing leagues or moving on to non-racing pursuits. While Ricciardo believed he still had potential in racing, he admitted that the idea of competing in IndyCar is intimidating to him.
Daniel Ricciardo admitted that he still finds IndyCar intimidating, a concern he first shared in 2022 amid F1 uncertainty. He had thought about racing in IndyCar, especially when he realized he might not start the 2023 season, but remained unsure about making that move. This hesitation reflected his love for racing and his fear of adapting to a new series. Switching to a different series involves new cars, tracks, and competition which he was scared off.
IndyCar still scares me, I’ve thought about it because I also thought about it a couple years ago when I knew I wasn’t going to start the 2023 season, but, I don’t know.Daniel Ricciardo told PlanetF1.com
Ricciardo expressed that he still sees himself as a competitor, with a strong passion and determination for racing. However, he recognized that his competitive spirit might also be fulfilled by exploring activities outside of racing. Therefore, he may not consider continuing racing if Red Bull actually sacks the Australian. Ricciardo emphasized that he wouldn’t feel satisfied if his Formula 1 career ended without accomplishing his dream of winning a championship.
I know I’m still a competitor. Like, I know I still have a lot of fire in me, but maybe that itch is scratched doing something else.Daniel Ricciardo stated.
Daniel Ricciardo asserts there will be ‘no guarantee’ he’ll be good at Indycar
Ricciardo shared that it was difficult for him to think about being in Formula 1 and only competing for 10th place. He felt similarly about racing in other series, without disrespecting their format. Having experienced the highs of racing at the top level, he questioned whether he could find the same satisfaction elsewhere. The Honey Badger acknowledged that switching to IndyCar will not guarantee he would perform better than he did in F1.
It’s maybe the same with doing another series and no disrespect to other series, but because I’ve been there and experienced the highest of the highs, will I get true fulfillment doing something else? no guarantee I’ll be good at something else.Daniel Ricciardo expressed.
Certainly, Ricciardo needs to take time to clear his head and consider his options if he is replaced at RB. He feels intimidated by IndyCar, believing there’s no guarantee he would perform well there, which would make it feel pointless. For now, the Australian must concentrate on the Singapore GP, which could be his last race.
