Formula 1 continues to gain popularity amongst the British masses due to the major backing from Europe. The various teams also consist of a majority of British people. As a result, Adrian Newey had recently berated the ‘nationality’ aspect of the sport, especially by Sky Sports. Hence, the well-known British commentator David Croft voiced his opinions over Newey’s claim.

David Croft has continued to commentate on Formula 1 races for quite a while now. The Englishman is famous for his exciting speeches especially when an English driver dominates the track. However, Crofty believed that he tried to be as impartial as he could amidst the claim of nationality bias. Additionally, the Briton claimed that it was possible he got more excited when a British driver won a race.

I try to be as impartial as I can. Do I get more excited when a British driver wins? Possibly, you might think so, I don’t know because I’m in that moment.

Do I get more excited when it’s been a thrilling race? Yes. Do I get more excited when there’s a great story to go with it? Yes. Do I get excited whoever wins? I try to.

David Croft claims he has ‘no control’ over the pictures depicted by Sky Sports

Formula 1 live streams often contain other information regarding the drivers’ performances and history in the sport. Even this has been rumored to be heavily biased toward English drivers. However, David Croft made it clear that he or Sky Sports had no control over this. Rather, the ‘world feed’ is responsible for showcasing such information regarding the drivers.

You’ve also got to talk to the pictures, which we have no control over, on Sky, at all – they’re all from a world feed – so you’re reacting to what that director wants to put out there.
