He has claimed it to be one of the greatest races in the recent times. The Silver Arrows dominated the race at Silverstone and emerged victorious against the lights of McLaren and Red Bull.

Mercedes has been far from their dominant best and thus, has been outpaced by Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull. But, despite this, the outfit has shown signs of rapid progress since the Monaco Grand Prix and are now one of the most competent teams on the grid.

Mercedes did a great job, and they are also a part of the winner because, stacking like they did, Lewis passing George, and then the two of them coming into the pits one after the other, losing little or no time, I thought that was epic racing. It just unfolded into one of the greatest races I've seen in recent times.

Andrew Shovlin explains motive behind early DNF for George Russell at Silverstone

Mercedes driver George Russell was forced to come back to the pits and retire his car on lap 34 of the British Grand Prix. It was an aftermath of Russell facing some issues with the water supply system of the W15. The DNF caused a huge blow to Brit’s hopes of winning the race, he started the 52-lap event from pole position.

In the end, when we stopped the car, it was to protect the power unit. We knew we would never finish the race. You don’t want to finish the race and destroy the power unit, and then get a penalty later in the year.
Andrew Shovlin said after the British Grand Prix

Mercedes Trackside Engineer, Andrew Shovlin has since offered some insights on the team’s call to retire the car during a crucial stint of the race on Sunday. Shovlin explained that the power unit was facing some severe issues due to a fault in the water supply system, which would have made it impossible for the W15 to reach the checkered flag.

The Mercedes engineer also claimed that the team took the decision as preventive measure to save the power unit from completely destroying itself. George Russell will now look to bounce back after a frustrating run that could have ended in a third career victory in F1.
