Adrian Newey‘s arrival in a rival team after exiting Red Bull has continued to be highly debated. The aero-genius was rumored to have already signed a contract with Ferrari. However, current rumors have hinted that a deal with Aston Martin has already been signed once again. Amidst this, Fred Vasseur revealed the failed attempts to acquire the technical wizard.
Ferrari had reportedly signed Adrian Newey with a contract of $105 Million spanning over four years. However, these rumors quickly died down as Newey is now believed to have joined Aston Martin for over $200 Million. Hence, Fred Vasseur noted that there were discussions between Maranello and the Briton.
Newey? There have been discussions, yes.Fred Vasseur told lequipe.fr
The reason for this was, that Newey’s ideas with the team were different from what Vasseur had in his mind. Newey had previously opened up about never working with any team related to the Italian constructor. Additionally, acquiring the aero-genius would be a great honor for the Italian constructor. Hence, Vasseur hoped for a future understanding between the two parties and working together.
But his ideas were probably different from what I had in mind for him. Maybe one day we will find a point of understanding.Fred Vasseur added
Fred Vasseur insisted ‘single person doesn’t change results’ amidst failed Adrian Newey acquisition
Ferrari’s performance has been extremely up and down in the 2024 season. However, despite the failure in acquiring Adrian Newey, Fred Vasseur was confident in the team’s capabilities. The Frenchman believed that a single person didn’t improve the results. Additionally, the Ferrari boss claimed that being in a group was ‘stronger’ than working on the chassis single-handedly.
But like I said, it's not a single person who changes a team's result. The group is always stronger than the single.Fred Vasseur noted
