The 2024 F1 season is the third consecutive year where Red Bull sits at the top of the table in both the championships. However compared to last year the second and third positions have switched. McLaren sits on second position while Ferrari is in third, the same as last year after the same number of races. The Prancing Horse had four tough weekend’s in the first half that cost them a crucial loss of points. Team principal Fred Vasseur claims, to be successful they must work on their mindset.

In an interview Fred Vasseur mentioned that winning in Formula 1 required a tough mindset, and this mindset comes from taking risks. To be successful in the sport, they can’t play safe and win races. Rather they need to be taking risks in every aspect to clinch the victories and score points. Vasseur explained, this approach is part of the racing mentality and is also a key aspect of Red Bull’s success. Adopting this mindset is crucial for Ferrari to improve their performance. Currently, sitting third in the constructor’s championship, the 56-year-old thinks they’re the second fastest on the grid.

It’s a mindset for me. You can’t keep margin. You have to take risk everywhere [if you want to win]. This is a racing mentality. It is probably also the DNA of Red Bull. It’s where we need a step forward.

Vasseur explained that people generally have two ways of looking at things, some focus on the positives, while others focus on areas that need improvement. The 56-year-old focuses on improving rather than celebrating successes, feeling he belongs to those who seek constant enhancement. He doesn’t waste time or energy questioning each day whether he’s satisfied with what has been achieved.

You have people who can look at the positives and others who look at the areas of improvement and I think I’m more on the latter. I don’t spend energy or time in my life asking each morning, are we happy with what we did?

Fred Vasseur asserts Ferrari needs to focus on its weaknesses

Fred Vasseur explained having a very busy schedule in the intense competition with nine races in ten weeks. He emphasized that it’s crucial for the team to focus on your weaknesses and always work on improving. Therefore, the 56-year-old reckoned the key to success is not just celebrating wins. It is about constantly finding ways to get better and address any areas of weakness.

This is the competition. I did nine races in 10 weeks, but most important is to be focused on your weakness and to keep the continuous improvement approach.
Fred Vasseur stated

Certainly, Vasseur emphasized the team’s ongoing focus on self improvement is essential for staying competitive in Formula 1. The Tifosi believe Ferrari would’ve found ways to improve their performance on track for the last ten races. They wish the team would win races more often in the second phase of the season.
