All eyes were set on the local hero Carlos Sainz to score impressive results at the Spanish GP. However, Ferrari’s strategy alongside other in-race incidents caused the Spaniard to lose out on his chance to shine. Moreover, Ferrari forced Sainz to let Charles Leclerc ahead towards the end of the race. As a result, multiple people made multiple conclusions about the situation as Fred Vasseur addressed them since then.

Carlos Sainz was extremely upset with the start-of-the-race incident with Charles Leclerc at the Spanish GP. Additionally, Sainz’s hopes of competing with the drivers ahead were pretty much brought to an end. As a result, Maranello decided to let Leclerc ahead of the local hero at the event. This further caused an uproar from the home crowd in Spain.

Upon this incident, Fred Vasseur reckoned that there were over ten circumstances where Ferrari lost half a second against the rivals. Additionally, Sainz letting Leclerc go off easily still caused the two to lose time around the track. As a result, Vasseur called out to discuss the incident and not draw further conclusions from it.

I think you can find 10 examples or circumstances in the race where we [lost] half a second, Carlos let [Leclerc] go very easily later on, and we missed a couple of tenths for two or three laps. Let us discuss it and not draw conclusions from the first comments of the driver when he jumps out of the car.
Fred Vasseur said, as reported by racingnews365.com.

Fred Vasseur claims Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have a ‘good relationship’ off-track

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc haven’t really clashed heads with each other on-track while racing. Hence, Fred Vasseur asserted that the two drivers shared a good relationship and mutual trust outside the car. Additionally, the Frenchman mentioned that such cases occurred between the drivers, however, the knowledge from the case would be more important.

"Out of the car, they have a very good relationship, good mutual trust and they are racers, For sure you can have this kind of case, but I know perfectly that from this situation, we are getting a lot.
Fred Vasseur added.

Apart from this, Vasseur reckoned that there were multiple other positives from the incident as well. The tough battle between the two drivers helped Ferrari recover several lost points. As a result, whatever happened was all part of racing and in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Last year, we recovered because we had this situation between them and this competition all over the season. Sometimes, what happened, happens and it is part of the game.

Fred Vasseur noted.

Ferrari will have to continue to keep up with the in-season upgrades to further take control in the development war. The ongoing campaign is already 10 rounds down and thus, it is high time that Ferrari keeps up the pressure on Red Bull at the front end of the grid.
