Mercedes has been struggling to perform ever since the beginning of the ground-effect era in 2022. The team has failed to showcase any impressive results this season. However, the Silver Arrows scored a massive turnaround at the Canadian GP. George Russell secured a pole position for the main race while Lewis Hamilton topped the FP3 session.

Mercedes is extremely delighted by the Canadian GP pole position from George Russell. The Briton didn’t hold back himself from being praiseful of the team’s hard work. Russell reckoned that the feeling was ‘amazing’ and felt good. Additionally, the 26-year-old appreciated Brackley’s hard work on the disappointing chassis as it was the ‘start of something’ for the season.

Amazing. It feels so good. So much hard work has gone in at the factory, and hopefully it's the start of something for our season, we think it is.
George Russell said during the post-session interivew.

Apart from this, the Briton claimed that he ‘missed’ this feeling of scoring such positive results. The 26-year-old further declared his excitement about starting the race from the front grid the next day. Additionally, Russell added that the chassis felt amazing after it was upgraded in Monaco. Hence, the German carmaker has a great chance of scoring a race win after the victory drought in the past season.

I missed this, it's such a good feeling. Excited for tomorrow - we have our eyes on that win. Let's go for it, the car has been feeling amazing since we brought those upgrades to Monaco.
George Russell added.

George Russell claims there’s ‘no reason’ why Mercedes cannot win the Canadian GP

Mercedes might start scoring better results due to the multiple in-season upgrades since the season began. The German carmaker has struggled during the ground-effect era. However, the newfound pace at the Canadian GP could help the team once again find itself in the battle for the constructors’ championship. The 26-year-old is extremely hopeful of scoring the race win in the main race in Monte Carlo.

George Russell highlighted that there was no reason why Brackley couldn’t score the race win in Canada. The team had the quickest car around the circuit as Lewis Hamilton scored the fastest lap in all the sectors. However, the team will still have to fend off against the dominant rivals around the circuit, especially McLaren and Ferrari.

I see no reason why we can't win. We have the quickest car. We don't understand the tires because as we saw after FP3 when the tires go, they go. So, we have to manage the pace.
George Russell noted.

Mercedes needs a massive comeback from the disappointing start to the season. The constructor has very less chances to score the championship victory amidst the rival team’s recent form. However, Red Bull’s degrading form has once again brought the entire top order of the teams closer. There could be a massive battle between the teams by the end of the 2024 season.
