George Russell asserts Mercedes ‘absolutely’ preparing for title challenge in 2025

George Russell‘s disqualification at the Belgian GP was a crucial loss of points for Mercedes. Russell narrowly beat Lewis Hamilton but was disqualified for underweight car, promoting Hamilton to pole position after the race. Amidst this the 26-year-old performed extremely well winning the Austrian GP and P3 in Canada. With three grand prix victories in their pockets, Mercedes is in the form to compete for the title.
In a recent interview George Russell was asked about the last 10 rounds providing a foundation for title challenges. Russell confirmed, absolutely, they aimed to use this year to set up everything they needed to be successful in the next season. By focusing on this preparation, they hoped to be in a better position to challenge for the championship. The Briton mentioned it has been challenging for everyone over the past couple of years to get the car into a position where they can regularly compete for wins. He explained that they have struggled to improve the car’s performance to the point where it can consistently challenge for victories.

Russell was optimistic about their chances and confident they could perform well against rivals as they developed throughout the season.

George Russell suggests the standings would have favored Mercedes if the season started in Montreal

This was because Mercedes’ started seeing improvements since the Canadian GP as Russell clinched the season’s first podium. The 26-year-old thought it would have made a big impact on how things turned out at the end of the first half. Therefore, he felt that starting the season in Montreal might have resulted in a better position for Mercedes and could have led to more success.
