Helmut Marko names Ayrton Senna’s teammate who should’ve been an F1 world champion
Helmut Marko believed that Gerhard Berger had the potential to become the world champion while teaming up with Ayrton Senna.

Helmut Marko has been around F1 for quite a while, having participated in the sport for more than 50 years. Hence, the 81-year-old has spent a lot of time with a majority of the drivers on the grid. Amidst this, Marko reflected on Ayrton Senna and his teammate Gerhard Berger‘s career in the sport.
Ayrton Senna was one of the greatest talents to ever step foot into F1. The Brazilian driver had the potential to smash the record books had he not been involved in a fatal accident, causing his death. However, Senna amassed three world championships while racing against Gerhard Berger as his teammate.
Helmut Marko reckoned that Berger had the potential to win the world championship against Senna. However, the former driver could only amass ten race wins and no world championships in the sport. Regardless, Marko recalled that he had faith in Berger and labeled him an ‘extraordinary talent’ in F1.

Helmut Marko didn’t hesitate to berate Gerhard Berger and his failed stint in F1 to win any championships. Marko reckoned the Austrian had the potential to become one of the greats. However, Berger didn’t make the most of his talent and lost out on the opportunity to score great results.

Regardless of Berger’s failed attempt at the world championship, the Austrian driver is still loved by many. F1 continues to witness multiple drivers enjoy an era of dominance before another driver starts performing better.
