Sergio Perez‘s future at Red Bull had been uncertain for the past few weeks. It was rumored that the Mexican driver will be axed by Milton Keynes after a string of disappointing performances. However, Perez has managed to convince the Austrian team to continue his duties for the rest of the season. Now, Dr. Helmut Marko shared his opinions on this decision.
After the Belgian GP, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner had a meeting with Helmut Marko. Horner later spoke at the team’s factory that Sergio Perez will stay for the foreseeable future. However, one must note that this comes after Checo had allegedly failed to meet the required results as per his contract.
Helmut Marko gave a brief response regarding this decision. The 81-year-old asserted that Perez will stay with the team. The Austrian highlighted that Red Bull wants Sergio Perez to get back to his old form. After the Belgian GP, Marko had admitted that Checo completely collapsed during the race.
Perez remains. We want to bring him back to the old form.Helmut Marko told F1-insider

Sergio Perez was not the only driver with an uncertain future. RB’s Daniel Ricciardo was in a tough spot. Previously, it was believed that Liam Lawson could replace the Australian driver after he was outperformed by Yuki Tsunoda. However, in the past few weeks, Ricciardo became the only alternative to Perez if Red Bull decided to sack the Mexican driver.

Nevertheless, Daniel Ricciardo will continue racing for the Red Bull sister team. This was confirmed by Helmut Marko with the 81-year-old stating that nothing will change at both the teams. Ricciardo’s presence at RB fetches millions of dollars in sponsorship money for the Faenza-based team.
Ricciardo stays too. Nothing will change.Helmut Marko asserted
Certainly, Red Bull has focused on consistency for the remaining half of 2024. However, the Austrian team’s decision could backfire if Perez fails to improve in the coming races. Max Verstappen faces a real threat for the title this season, and as such Checo must bounce back right after the summer break.
